READING RECOVERY PROGRAM

Kim Forbes is the Reading Recovery Program Teacher for Mount Austin Public School.

What is 'Reading Recovery'?

Reading Recovery is a research-based early intervention program to reduce reading and writing failure.

Within the Reading Recovery program, each student's regular class room instruction is supplemented with a 30-minute daily lesson individually designed to meet his or her literacy needs.

Selecting Students

The students selected to participate in the Reading Recovery program are those who, after a year at school, appear to be at greatest risk of literacy failure.

A Reading Recovery Lesson

The 30-minute daily Reading Recovery lesson includes activities in text reading, letter identification and text writing.

Does Reading Recovery work?

Reading Recovery's success as an early intervention program in literacy has been carefully documented since its inception and it has proven to be extraordinarily successful.

Reading Recovery Schools

In 2005 Reading Recovery is being implemented by 837 public schools as well as a number of schools in Catholic and other private education systems.

Reading Recovery Teachers : Every Reading Recovery teacher completes a year of training, involving both theory and practice.

Reading Recovery Tutors : The training of Reading Recovery teachers is the responsibility of qualified Reading Recovery tutors.

Supporting your child in Reading Recovery

The best way to help your child in Reading Recovery is to make sure your child attends school every day in order not to miss a Reading Recovery lesson.
